So many companies have touted their software for mobile phones as the work force productivity answer. And while I will agree that working remote with only a PDA or phone has become easier I wouldn't go so far as to say they are the nirvana for a mobile workforce.

To set the record straight I work while traveling on my Moto Q running Windows mobile. With that said I will say that the iPhone is really poised to take productivity to another level. My experience tell me it's the large screen (for a mobile device) and, to a lesser degree, the touch aspect. My Q has such a small screen everything has to be rendered so small that it's restricting.

I have been using my iPod Touch and the applications over WiFi and I am much more satisfied with it than any other mobile device prior (Visor, iPAQ, Sony Cleo, HTC Smart Phone, Motorla Q).

I agree. While mobile computing in the form of PDAs has been taken to a whole new level, it's still too cumbersome to be a replacement for a laptop. Even using VNC on my iPhone is only useful for the most basic of things. I'm not even convinced that even a 15" touchscreen would be laptop replacement. Unless the UI was built to help speed up basic tasks.
Btw, I'm typing this on my iPhone.
